Biography 

Sadatu Futa captures people, places and movements through her lens and pens. Her profiles on African women are published in Gal-dem and Black Ballad. In 2022 she was awarded the Pocc x Shutterstock artist in residence fund. At the V&A x GUAP African fashion celebration, her spoken word film God of Thread, was showcased as part of the emerging creators display. She has featured in spoken word events at Theatre Peckham, The Africa Centre and Natural History Museum - where she performed her commended scientific piece exploring Saltwater Intrusion. Sadatu is interested in climate resilience and symbiosis with nature; she is involved in conservation and creative work with a collective and contributed eco-poetry to the Natures Nurtures anthology published by Spread The Word. Following on from participating in a children’s literature development programme with Apples and Snakes, her poems feature in a forthcoming anthology edited by Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho and published by Otter Barry Books - SPIN: 10 Exciting New Voices in Poetry.  In the past summer she developed a new practice and facilitated Sadatu’s Wild Wild Show, a series of nature poetry workshops for children at London Wildlife Trust reserves.
